Mark Ward O’Roke Memorial Scholarship

Mark O'Roke Scholarship

The Mark Ward O’Roke Memorial Scholarship is a full-tuition renewable scholarship created in Mark’s memory and funded by his family, friends, and coworkers, who were so honored to know and love him.

Mr. Mark (better known as DAD, PawPaw, or MarkyMark to his family) was a man of principle, a beloved husband and dad, and an effective leader at work. He rarely lectured, but instead led others by example, modeling his own values of personal and financial responsibility, fairness, and work ethic. He believed in being someone you could depend on, and he quietly supported many who came to him for help—never with strings attached or the need for praise or public recognition.

Mark had a sharp mind, but he did not use his intelligence to elevate himself above others. Instead, he used his big brain and life experience to problem solve and lift up those around him. He was even-tempered, and when things got hard, he never wavered or acted rashly. You could count on him to have a calm and centered response for every crisis, and he taught us that there is always a way forward even when you can’t see it clearly.

Mark was so proud of his family. He encouraged his daughters and grandchildren (one of whom is an alumna of ASH) to pursue their education, and he made sure they knew that they had his full support for whatever goals they set. He mentored us with love and patience and took great pride in the diverse career paths that each of us took—even when they looked nothing like his own.

He leaves such a big hole in our lives, but we are grateful that part of his legacy will continue on by empowering students to pursue their dreams with hard work and determination.
